Section V Quarterfinals Preview: Boys’ Soccer Class A

Section V Boys’ Soccer Class A heads to Churchville-Chili, Greece Arcadia, Pittsford Sutherland and Wayne for the Elite Eight. Seven of the top eight seeds remain. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed PITTSFORD SUTHERLAND KNIGHTS (14-1-2/Monroe County Division III) vs. No. 8 seed SPENCERPORT RANGERS (8-5-3/Monroe County Division II)

How they got here: Pittsford Sutherland (No. 2 NYSSWA Class A) opened with a 4-0 win over No. 16 seed Greece Athena. Spencerport tied with No. 9 seed Aquinas, 1-1, and advanced on penalty kicks.

Total goals scored: Pittsford Sutherland (42), Spencerport (42)

Total goals allowed: Pittsford Sutherland (10), Spencerport (26)

Last time they met: This will be the second straight year the two squads face off in sectionals. Pittsford Sutherland defeated Spencerport, 2-1, in the 2020 Class A sectional semifinals.

Trends: Pittsford Sutherland has won four of its last five games with three shutouts in that span. Spencerport has won three of its last five games and outscored its opponents, 15-4, in that span.

History 101: Pittsford Sutherland is looking to advance to the sectional semifinals for the third straight year. Spencerport is seeking a fourth consecutive trip to the sectional semifinals.

A 7 p.m. kickoff is scheduled Tuesday at Pittsford Sutherland High School.

No. 2 seed CHURCHVILLE-CHILI SAINTS (12-2-2/Monroe County Division II) vs. No. 10 seed IRONDEQUOIT EAGLES (8-7-2/Monroe County Division II)

How they got here: Churchville-Chili (No. 11 NYSSWA Class A) opened with a 4-0 win over No. 15 seed Eastridge. Irondequoit defeated No. 7 seed Brighton, 1-0.

Total goals scored: Churchville-Chili (37), Irondequoit (36)

Total goals allowed: Churchville-Chili (13), Irondequoit (28)

Last time they met: Churchville-Chili defeated Irondequoit, 2-1, on October 8th to sweep the season series.

Trends: Churchville-Chili has won four of its last five games with three shutouts in that span. Irondequoit has won three straight – all via shutout.

History 101: Churchville-Chili is seeking a fourth consecutive trip to the sectional semifinals. Irondequoit is seeking its first sectional semifinals appearance since 2011.

A 4:45 p.m. kickoff is scheduled Tuesday at Churchville-Chili High School.

No. 3 seed GREECE ARCADIA TITANS (13-3-1/Monroe County Division III) vs. No. 6 seed HONEOYE FALLS-LIMA (10-4-2/Monroe County Division IV)

How they got here: Greece Arcadia opened with a 2-0 win over No. 14 seed Webster Thomas. Honeoye Falls-Lima tied with No. 11 seed Pittsford Mendon, 1-1, and advanced on penalty kicks, 6-5.

Total goals scored: Greece Arcadia (38), Honeoye Falls-Lima (39)

Total goals allowed: Greece Arcadia (9), Honeoye Falls-Lima (20)

Last time they met: Greece Arcadia defeated Honeoye Falls-Lima, 3-0, in their lone meeting on September 22nd.

Trends: Greece Arcadia has won five straight games and outscored its opponents, 14-3, in that span. Honeoye Falls-Lima has won four of its last five with four shutouts in that span.

History 101: This will be the second straight year the two squads face off in sectionals. After a scoreless tie in regulation and overtime, Greece Arcadia advanced on penalty kicks, 4-3, in the 2020 Class A sectional quarterfinals.

A 6:30 p.m. kickoff is scheduled Tuesday at Greece Arcadia High School.

No. 4 seed WAYNE EAGLES (15-2/Finger Lakes East Division) vs. No. 5 seed BROCKPORT BLUE DEVILS (12-5/Monroe County Division III)

How they got here: Wayne opened with a 3-2 win over No. 13 seed Canandaigua. Brockport defeated No. 12 seed Webster Schroeder, 2-0.

Total goals scored: Wayne (63), Brockport (48)

Total goals allowed: Wayne (12), Brockport (14)

Trends: Wayne has won 14 consecutive games and outscored its opponents, 55-8, in that span. Brockport has won six straight and outscored its opponents, 22-5, in that span.
