Highlighting SOME of Section V’s top performers from the last two weeks of the regular season. This is part of a series and more names will be added during sectionals.
LAURA BENNETT Sr. Midfield/Forward Pittsford Sutherland Knights (Monroe County III) — A commanding presence in the middle third of the field, Bennett is confident with her touch, sees one play ahead and is capable of executing, understands when to play to space and when to feet, comfortable with the ball in her possession, she makes effective use of touches beating one defender, drawing another and playing off to open teammates keeping the ball moving and defense adjusting, she understands how to play fast while not hurrying, frequently her game-speed makes opponents uncomfortable.
BRE BISHOP 8th Grade Forward Caledonia-Mumford Raiders (LCAA III) — Resourceful frontline performer who will be exciting to watch in the coming years; Bishop is gifted at receiving the ball in stride and making plays, she is comfortable making one-touch passes to teammates but has to be accounted for as a threat to score, understands how to break down a defense using the pass and dribble as simultaneous threats, already proving herself as a finisher; she is capable of executing with her back to the goal but is effective in midfield where she can see the play ahead of her. Cal-Mum’s season was cut short earlier in the week with a loss to Bishop Kearney, will be looking for Bishop to make an impact next season.
JOSH BOLT Sr. Midfield Wayne Eagles (Finger Lakes East) — A skilled playmaker and finisher; Bolt is a tireless worker, thrives without the ball and distorts opposing defenses that have to account for his presence on the pitch, able to receive the ball in stride and make quick decisions, he can break down a defense off the dribble and with the pass, understands how to use pace to set up teammates when distributing the ball; his 28 goals rank third in Section V.
KUDITRA DEROSA Sr. Forward Greece Olympia Spartans (Monroe County IV) — Equipped with quick acceleration and confident touch, Derosa draws a crowd of defenders; despite receiving added attention from opponents, she is able to produce along the front line, powerful with a low center of gravity, Derosa is able to get into stride with the ball at her feet, comfortably uses change of speed and change of direction to break down opposing defenses.
KALEB GLESSING Sr. Midfield Wayne Eagles (Finger Lakes East) — A repeat performer on the XI, Glessing is a sturdy player who impacts the game from the middle third; always a facilitator, Glessing has made himself a scoring threat and understands how to use the added dimension to keep opposing defenses off-balance, a quick decision-maker, he takes advantage of space to shoot and quickly plays the ball off when pressured; an active defender he uses his 6-foot-2 frame to win balls in the air.
CHLOE HUBBARD Jr. Midfield/Forward Warsaw Tigers (LCAA II) — Versatile midfielder who allows the game to come her; skilled and athletic, Hubbard lets her abilities flourish within the structure of a system, she is comfortable using one-to-two touches to maintain movement and pace, at the same time she recognizes open field in front of her and is capable of advancing the ball with the dribble, shows high game IQ and uses an economy of touches; patient defender who routinely stops opposing movement and then forces a retreat.
BRENDON MOQUIN Sr. Midfield Palmyra-Macedon Raiders (Finger Lakes East) — Tireless worker who plays sideline to sideline; Moquin consistently wins 50-50 situations and is able to distribute out of a crowd, anticipates play well and gets in passing lanes, thrives on contact and routinely wins possession for his squad; above-average field vision, he understands how to use pace to create for teammates.
REESE POWERS Sr. Midfield Keshequa Indians (LCAA III) — Crafty midfield player who keeps opposing defenses in retreat; a pass-first player, Powers understands how to use space on the pitch to create for teammates and self, see openings for others around him and keeps the ball moving, picks his spots well as to when he advances the ball with a dribble; consistently checks back to become point on defense allowing teammates to regain shape, disciplined defender who understands the value of how initial containment can lead to dictating the flow of an opposing offense.
MARY CLAIRE ROLLINS Jr. Midfield/Forward Geneseo Blue Devils (LCAA II) — Relentless frontline player who understands the value of playing balls into the 18-yard box, a high-energy performer, Rollins needs little space to get off her shot, she consistently keeps opposing defenses in reaction mode, sees the field well and understands when to play off to teammates; consistently checks back on defense and looks to create in counterattack situations.
JACK RUBECK Sr. Midfield Geneseo Blue Devils (LCAA II) — Active midfielder who doesn’t need the ball to work hard; Rubeck consistently wins 50-50 situations and stays in control after gaining possession, looks to feed teammates and stays with the rush upfield, at his best distributing the ball but has to be accounted for as a scoring threat; tireless defender who understands when to contain and when to dictate, frequently steps-to to gain possession.
EMMA TANGEMAN Sr. Midfield/Forward Warsaw Tigers (LCAA II) – Disciplined midfield performer who has a knack for making the right play; Tangeman is comfortable allowing the play to come to her, rarely over-commits or out of position, she sees the field well and understands how to use pace on passes to create opportunities for teammates, keeps opposing defenses honest with her ability to shoot from distance; uses her 6-foot frame to win balls in the air and is adept at win 50-50 balls on the ground.

Great article! I have seen several of these players this year and these assessments are dead-on! Mr. Gotham really knows and understands the game of soccer.
