Spinelli Dental Wednesday Soccer Wrap: Alfred-Almond’s Balboa, Bloomfield’s Conklin score OT game-winner; Manning lifts Eastridge

Sierra Manning (No. 10 for Eastridge) scored the game’s lone goal in Wednesday’s win.

Frustration came early and often for Ian Szemcsak Wednesday night. For the first 105-plus minutes of game time, the leading scorer of East Rochester’s boys’ soccer team could not capitalize on his opportunities to find the back of the net. The senior attacker, though, regained his shooting touch just in time. Szemcsak took a pass from teammate Perry Francis along the left wing, beat one defender and connected on the game winner in the 109th minute. Sodus advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on No. 3 seed Avon.

Eric Conklin scored both goals, including the game-winner in the 91st minute, to lift Bloomfield to the win in the first round. The senior midfielder netted his other point in the 50th minute. Sergio Dunn assisted Conklin’s game-winner. For Pembroke, senior midfielder Matthew Curtis scored the team’s lone goal in the 36th minute. Bloomfield advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on top-seeded Addison.

Addison Bump, Gabriel Caraballo and Zachary Herd all scored two goals to lead Newark to a dominant first-round victory. Senior attacker Tyler Horton rounded out the scoring. Newark advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on No. 2 seed Greece Olympia.

Nate Rusinko and Daniel Wright both scored a goal as Geneva came out on top in the first round. Rusinko put the Panthers on the board 12 minutes into the match thanks to Will Diaz. Wright added much-needed insurance in the 61st minute. Geneva advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on top-seeded Hornell.

CLASS B2

No. 6 WAYLAND-COHOCTON (8-9) 3
For Dansville, junior goalkeeper Colin Gray accumulated 14 saves. Wayland-Cohocton advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on No. 3 seed Attica.

North Rose-Wolcott advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on No. 2 seed Penn Yan.

Reece Grisewood accounted for all the scoring with two goals and an assist to lead Letchworth/Warsaw to a first-round victory. The junior midfielder netted a point in each half and delivered a helper to John Mertsock. Senior attacker Nik Eustace assisted both of Grisewood’s goals. Letchworth/Warsaw advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on top-seeded Bath-Haverling.

CLASS C2

No. 5 ALFRED-ALMOND (10-7) 2 (OT)
Aritz Balboa scored both goals, including the game-winner in the 93rd minute, to lift Alfred-Almond to the win in the first round. The senior attacker buried his other point 10 minutes into the match. Micah Burdick and Dylan Coots assisted Balboa’s goals. Alfred-Almond advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on the winner of No. 13 seed Gananda vs. No. 4 seed Bolivar-Richburg.

No. 6 KENDALL (8-7-2) 7
Zach Barret spun a hat trick as Kendall unleashed seven goals and rolled to the first-round victory. The junior attacker scored all three goals in the second half. Sophomore attacker Louis Conte followed up with a point in each period. Josh Esposito and Michael McCue rounded out the scoring. McCue and Riley Robinson both assisted a goal by both Barret and Conte. Freshman midfielder Jonathan Reyes was credited the helper for Esposito’s goal. Kendall advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on No. 3 seed Harley-Allendale-Columbia.

No. 7 CAMPBELL-SAVONA (8-7) 4
Kaden Bolt delivered a hat trick plus an assist to lead Campbell-Savona to a win in the first round. The senior attacker scored the second of the Panthers’ two goals in the first half, then netted both of the team’s points in the second period. Bolt assisted Colin Klemann’s goal in the 11th minute. Junior midfielder Carter Crooker applied the helper to Bolt’s hat trick-clinching goal. Campbell-Savona advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on No. 2 seed Bradford/Dundee.

No. 8 BYRON-BERGEN/ELBA (8-9) 6
Jack Farner spun a hat trick as Byron-Bergen/Elba rolled to the first-round victory. The freshman midfielder scored back-to-back goals spanning the first and second half before clinching the hat trick late in the second period. Braedyn Chambry, Colin Martin and Colin Rea rounded out the scoring. Colin Martin amassed four assists as well, including two for Farner. Junior midfielder Josh Tardy was credited the helper for Farner’s first goal. Byron-Bergen/Elba advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on top-seeded Keshequa.

GIRLS

CLASS A1

No. 8 IRONDEQUOIT (4-13) 2
Lillian Gillett and Brianna Maher both scored in the first half as Irondequoit won the first-round matchup. Gillett put the Eagles on the board 11 minutes into the match and Maher added much-needed insurance in the 35th minute. Junior midfielder Maeve Steckley assisted Maher’s goal. Caroline Vines led the shutout with five saves. Irondequoit advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on top-seeded Spencerport.

CLASS A2

Sierra Manning connected on the game-winner to lift Eastridge to the first-round victory. Eastridge advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on top-seeded Greece Athena.

South Seneca advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on top-seeded Fillmore.

CLASS D2

Hannah Hoerter paced a balanced Hammondsport offense with one goal and two assists as six different players scored in the Lakers’ first-round win. The senior forward netted her shot in the 34th minute to cap off a four-goal first period for the Lakers. Then Hoerter applied helpers for Danica Dresser and Alexia Swarthout in the second half. Dresser assisted Arielle Szathmary’s point as well. Sam Pratt and Stefania Tears rounded out the scoring. Sophomore forward Gabrielle Doyle was credited the helper for Pratt’s goal. Senior goalkeeper Rorie Whitcomb recorded four saves in the shutout. Hammondsport advances to the sectional quarterfinals to take on top-seeded Notre Dame Batavia.
