ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Manuel Gonzalez scored a pair of second-half goals, and the No. 8 World of Inquiry/Edison/Franklin/SOTA Griffins defeated No. 9 East/Leadership/NE Douglass, 3-0 in Section V Class AA action Tuesday from the Trent Jackson Athletic Complex at Franklin High School.

The Griffins advance to meet top-seeded McQuaid in the quarterfinals.

Leading 1-nil, Gonzalez connected with left-footed strike from 25 yards out five minutes into the second half.

Exactly 10 minutes later, the junior midfielder all but put the game out of reach when he one-timed a pass from teammate Hakim Saleh for his third goal of the season.

The brace came after opposing goalkeeper Moises Perez denied Gonzalez opportunity late in the first half.

Saleh contributed two assists in the game. The junior attacker set up teammate Ah Clay with the Griffins’ first goal.
