Jamir Jones (Aquinas/Notre Dame) signed with the Los Angeles Rams after clearing waivers from the Pittsburgh Steelers, Wednesday. The Rams official Twitter account made the announcement once the transaction was confirmed.

This was a surprise considering Jones started the Steelers’ last game against the Cincinnati Bengals, played 20 snaps and recorded one of the team’s 25 tackles. The 6-foot-3 outside linebacker, who signed with the club as a free agent this past offseason, impressed in the preseason with a league-high six quarterback hits as well.
Regardless, Jones joins a Rams’ defense which ranks ninth in points allowed per game (20.7) and 10th in rushing yards allowed per game (92.7). He is expected to contribute right away due to the loss of edge-rusher Justin Hollins, who was ninth on the team with 12 tackles, including one for loss and two sacks, plus a forced fumble before going on Injured Reserve with a pectoral ailment.
At the University of Notre Dame, Jones played 37 of 51 games from 2016 to 2019 and recorded 30 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. In 2018, Jones had 12 tackles, including three on October 27 in a 44-22 win over Navy.
Jones starred on both sides of the ball at Aquinas as well. He played all 34 games between 2013 and 2015. As a linebacker, Jones compiled 157 tackles, nine and a half sacks, three fumble recoveries and a pair of interceptions. In 2014, the 6-foot-3 standout played quarterback and wide receiver. As the play caller, he completed 34-of-82 passes for 715 yards and five touchdowns. Jones had 68 carries for 205 rush yards and a score as well. As a receiver in 2014 and 2015, he had 45 catches for 879 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Jones will get a taste of the big time right away as the Rams face their division rival, the Arizona Cardinals, in an undefeated clash on Sunday at 4:05 p.m.
