Section V Boys’ Soccer gets into full swing this week. Here are the team previews for Fairport, Hilton, Penfield, Rush-Henrietta, Victor and Webster Schroeder:
FAIRPORT RED RAIDERS (Class AA)
Last season record and finish: 8-5, lost in Class AA sectional final to Penfield
Coach: William Teasdale (31st season, Second season on Varsity, 8-5 career record)
Top returners: Noah Buys Sr. D; Sejad Hodzic Sr. D; Garrett Kucera Sr. MF; Jonathan Mussumeci Sr. A; Myles Palmer Jr. A
Top newcomers: Jordan Robinson Jr. A
Outlook: “We’re a young team with a few returning starters,” Teasdale said.” “We play a tough schedule with many competitive teams.”
First game: September 2nd vs. Victor at 6:30 p.m.
HILTON CADETS (Class AA)
Last season record and finish: 6-5, lost in Class AA sectional quarterfinals to Victor
Coach: Michael Ellicott (Seventh season, 63-35-7 career record)
Top returners: Cody Cavuoto Sr. MF (Led team in scoring the past two seasons); Luca Dodge Jr. MF; Anthony Inglese Sr. D; Alec Smith Sr. MF
Top newcomers: Ben Cronk Jr. GK; Jonathan Resnick Sr. A
Outlook: “The Hilton boys soccer team is looking forward to games in front of many fans this fall,” Ellicott stated. “They will push to compete for the Division I title and Class AA sectional title while playing a brand of soccer that is easy on the eye and fun to watch. With 12 fantastic seniors who are working hard to make their senior year special, they have a talented group of sophomores who really are the future of the program.”
First game: September 2nd at Rush-Henrietta at 5 p.m.
PENFIELD PATRIOTS (Class AA)
Last season record and finish: 13-0-0, defeated Fairport in Class AA sectional final
Coach: John Cotsonas (26th season, 36-36-13 career record)
Top returners: Omer Aktas Sr. D (All-County Honorable Mention); Danny Gregory Sr. D (All-County Honorable Mention); Shane McMillan Sr. A (Two-time All-County First Team, Two-time Monroe County Division I leading scorer, Two-time Class AA All-Tournament Team, Robert Morris University commit); Cristiano Mounnarat Jr. MF (All-County First Team, Class AA All-Tournament Team); Josh Robinson Sr. GK (All-County Honorable Mention); Gibson Spector Sr. A; Jack Walsh Jr. MF
Top newcomers: Paul Rolland So. F; Zach Shores So. MF
Outlook: “We graduated lots of experience and five All-County players from last year’s team,” Cotsonas noted. “We have returning players who have played lots of Varsity minutes over the past couple of seasons and are looking forward to challenging ourselves against very good competition throughout our 2021 schedule. Our league is always competitive and will prepare us well for sectionals at the end of the season.”

RUSH-HENRIETTA ROYAL COMETS (Class AA)
Last season record and finish: 3-8, lost in Class AA sectional quarterfinals to Fairport
Coach: Jake Falci
Next game: September 2nd vs. Hilton at 5 p.m.
VICTOR BLUE DEVILS (Class AA)
Last season record and finish: 6-6, lost in Class AA sectional semifinals to Penfield
Coach: Steven Fish (22nd season, 158-155-25 career record)
Top returners: Connor Cronin Sr. GK (All-County Second Team); Thomas Gravino Jr. MF (All-County First Team); Paxton Marshall Jr. D
Top newcomers: Charlie Forkell Jr. MF
Outlook: “After losing 13 seniors from last year’s squad, the team is very young but extremely athletic and close-knit,” Fish commented. “Led by All-County First team player Thomas Gravino and All-County Second Team selectee Connor Cronin, it should be another exciting season for the Blue Devils.”

WEBSTER SCHROEDER WARRIORS (Class A1)
Last season record and finish: 0-12, lost in first round of Class AA sectionals to Penfield
Coach: David Urbanski (18th season)
Top returners: Eli Boothby Sr. A; Peter Kim-Rivera Jr. A; Jake Marcell Sr. MF
Top newcomers: Alejandro Pena-Rangel Jr. MF
Outlook: “The boys struggled through a winless campaign last fall, but learned a lot along the way,” Urbanski said. W”e bring back seven starters who all gained some valuable experience. We’ll still be quite small, but more technical through the midfield. A lot will depend on certain guys staying healthy and other guys getting healthy.”
First game: September 2nd vs. Penfield at 6:30 p.m.
