Section V Girls’ Soccer gets into full swing this week. Here are the team previews for Brockport, Canandaigua, Greece Arcadia, Greece Athena, Pittsford Mendon and Pittsford Sutherland:
BROCKPORT BLUE DEVILS (Class A2)
Last season record and finish: 5-7, lost in first round of Class A sectionals to Churchville-Chili
Coach: Mathew Davis (Eighth season, 60-49-6 career record)
Top returners: Ella Fadale Sr. F; Maeve Grady Sr. MF/F; Nadia Nealon Jr. MF/F (All-County First Team); Majia Young Sr. MF/F (All-County First Team)
Top newcomers: Cameron Burbano Jr. D; Baylee Degenfelder So. D; Lillian LaShomb Jr. D; Brooke Walsh So. D/MF
Outlook: “The Blue Devils have some core returning seniors that will lead the way offensively,” Davis noted. “With a tough schedule, they hope to be a team in the mix for Class A2 at the end of the season.”
First game: September 3rd at Pittsford Sutherland at 5 p.m.
CANANDAIGUA BRAVES (Class A2)
Last season record and finish: 5-8, lost in first round of Class A sectionals to Pittsford Sutherland
Coach: Jacqueline Corbett (Fourth season)
Top returners: Abigail Cangemi So. MF/F; Payton Malec So. GK; Brooke Rizzo So. D/MF (All-County Second Team); Ellie Teerlinck So. MF; Alexa Tenney So. D/F
Top newcomers: Allie Beaudoin So. MF/F; Olivia Hallett So. D/MF
Outlook: “We’re looking forward to another season,” Corbett said. “We have several new players on the team this year and are excited to grow and compete together. We’re competing in Monroe County Division III again this season and also have a few games lined up with Finger Lakes teams.”
First game: September 1st at Midlakes at 4 p.m.
GREECE ARCADIA TITANS (Class A1)
Last season record and finish: 2-10, lost in first round of Class A sectionals to Brighton
Coach: Jakob Honan (Seventh season)
Top returners: Isabella Fedele So. MF/F; Ava Perkins Jr. D; Ava Taylor Jr. D
Top newcomers: Catherine Latona Jr. MF; Hailey Romansky Jr. GK; Kaitlin Spring Fr. MF
Outlook: “We’re a young team who should be competitive, especially as we grow together throughout the season,” Honan noted.
First game: September 1st vs. Irondequoit at 7 p.m.
GREECE ATHENA TROJANS (Class A2)
Last season record and finish: 6-6, lost in Class A sectional quarterfinals to Spencerport
Coach: Jeremiah Bergan (Third season)
Top returners: Ashley Accorso Sr. MF/F; Wrianna Hudson So. MF/F (Two-time All-County First Team); Kali Johnson Sr. D/MF (All-County Second Team); Larissa Johnston Sr. D/MF (All-County First Team last season, All-County Second Team in 2019); Sadie Lombardo Sr. MF/F; Julie Welling Sr. MF

Outlook: “We’re seeking a winning record,” Bergan said. “We feature a lot of attack with speed and power, especially through Wrianna Hudson, who is hands-down the most dangerous girls’ soccer player in Upstate New York.”
First game: September 1st at Penfield at 6:30 p.m.
PITTSFORD MENDON VIKINGS (Class A2)
Last season record and finish: 10-1-0, lost in Class A sectional quarterfinals to Our Lady Of Mercy
Coach: Eric Pritchard (15th season)
Top returners: Elena Barr Jr. MF/F (Five assists and four goals last season); Lauren DiMarzo Jr. D; Hailey Giordano Sr. MF; Olivia Hansen Sr. D/F; Kate Hennessey Sr. D; Mary Kate Leon Sr. MF; Bridget Merkel Jr. MF/F (Nine goals last season); Sophie Tommasi Jr. D
Outlook: “Class A has a lot of talent and we’re looking to get better each day in hopes of being one of the many teams who could win the class,” Pritchard said.
First game: September 3rd at Greece Arcadia at 11 a.m.
PITTSFORD SUTHERLAND KNIGHTS (Class A2)
Last season record and finish: 7-5-1, lost in Class A sectional quarterfinals to Brighton
Coach: Adam Palumbo (11th season, 100-60-21 career record)
Top returners: Ava Allen Sr. D; Laura Bennett Sr. MF/F; Abby Cappotelli Sr. D/MF; Abby Dunnigan Sr. MF/F; Allie Finkbeiner Sr. D/MF; Meghan Joerger So. D; Ava O’Neil Sr. MF/F; Ella Wilmot Sr. D/MF
Outlook: “This year, we look to be a competitive team in a very strong and competitive class,” Palumbo noted.
