UBL Wrap presented by Tribune Catching Academy: Altpeter and DI Red walk off; DI Orange grabs early lead in first win

DI RED (4-0-1) 8
Patrick Altpeter (Aquinas Institute) finished 2-for-4 on the day including a walk-off double to cap a four-run Red seventh. Altpeter plated Tino Tiermini (Irondequoit) and James Poglione (Fairport) with his one-out game winner. Trailing 7-4, Steven Kraus (Hilton) beat out an infield single to start the inning. Zachary Harnischfeger (Greece Athena) followed with a hit of his own. An error on the play put runners on second and third. One out later, Tiermini cut the deficit to one with a two-run double. Poglione reached on an error to set up Altpeter for the game winner.

Tommy DiFranco (Penfield) worked three scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win. The right-hander struck out four and improved to 2-0 on the season. DiFranco also collected a single, an RBI and a run scored. Nathan Zicari (Webster Thomas) finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the Red offense. Tiermini went 2-for-4. Ryan Struzik (Penfield) singled and scored.

Donovan Wallace (Greece Athena) highlighted a six-run DI Blue second with a bases-clearing double. Ryan Zaft (Webster Schroeder) started the stanza with a walk and scored on a Charlie Sim (Williamsville South) double. Brian Nassivera (Greece Arcadia) reached on a dropped third strike. Gavin Haarr (Brockport) and Henry Shutts (Gananda) followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases for Wallace. Mason Haarr (Brockport) went 3-for-3 with two doubles and scored a run to lead Blue’s offense. Haarr started and struck out six over three innings of work on the mound. Sim was 2-for-3. Zaft and Jack Salerno (Brighton) added a hit apiece.

DI GOLD (1-2-2) 4
DI ORANGE (1-3-1) 7
Alex Green (Wellsville) doubled and homered in his Upstate League debut to lead DI Orange. Green’s round-tripper was part of a three-run first inning that gave Orange a lead it did not surrender. Preston Foryt (McQuaid Jesuit) reached on a hit by pitch to start the inning and later came home on a passed ball. Ryan Grasley (Greece Athena) walked and scored on Green’s shot over the left-field fence. Orange used a two-out rally in the second to push the lead to 5-0. Drew Wilson walked and scored on a Paul Conroy (Northstar Christian) double. Brody Wolcott (Fairport) followed with an RBI single.

Foryt allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits to pick up his first win of the season. The right-hander struck out six and walked one over four innings of work. Weston Elkovitch (Victor) hurled three innings in relief to pick up the save. The left-hander struck out six and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits.

Sammy Saucke (Greece Athena) went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs to lead DI Gold. Ian Fleck (McQuaid Jesuit) singled and scored. Dylan Hodgeman (Rush-Henrietta) drove in a run with a base hit. Josh Winter (Spencerport) singled and crossed home twice. Winter also struck out one and retired six of the seven batters he faced over two scoreless innings of relief. Kayden Yapjoco (Greece Athena) added a run.
