UBL Friday presented by Tribune Catching Academy: DII Red uses big third to clinch first victory

DII Red sent 10 batters to the plate to pull away in a decisive third inning. JoJo Guisto (Fairport) started the stanza with a base on balls and capped the scoring with a two-run single. In between Timothy Leary (Northstar Christian), Gavin DeBlase (Brighton) and Jacob Murray (Penfield) added a run-scoring single apiece as Red crossed home six times in the frame.

Jacob Sova (Greece Arcadia) worked three innings to pick up the win. The right-hander started and allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits and one walk. Parker Goodness (Greece Athena) hurled three innings in relief to keep DII Blue in check while Red’s offense did its work. Goodness struck out four and allowed one unearned run on one hit and four walks.

Guisto finished with two hits, a walk and two runs scored. Goodness went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases and two runs scored. Leary was 2-for-4, reached base three times and scored twice. DeBlase also reached base three times and scored twice. Sova crossed home three times. Light and Declan Caron (Eastridge) scored two runs apiece.

Henry Shutts (Gananda) doubled twice, drove in two runs  and scored another for DII Blue. Conor Forkey (Fairport) brought home a pair of runs with a two-bagger of his own in the second. Blue grabbed its only lead of the game in the second inning. Nicholas O’Toole (Greece Athena) reached with a leadoff walk and advanced on a passed ball. After moving to third on a ground ball, O’Toole came home on an Anthony Getty (Hilton) RBI ground out. Jacob Natale singled, walked twice and scored a run. Ryan Struzik (Penfield) singled and scored a run. Colin MacLean (Pittsford Sutherland) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and also crossed home.
