UBL Wednesday: Cole and Shutts pace DII Blue to Opening Night win

Dylan Cole (Greece Athena) and Henry Shutts (Gananda) combined for five RBI and two runs scored to pace DII Blue to a convincing win. Cole’s single in the second brought home Conor Forkey (Fairport) and Dylan Dumont (Webster Schroeder) with the first two runs in a game in which DII Blue never trailed. Shutts was the first of six straight in the fifth inning to reach with two outs when he plated Jacob Natale (Penfield) with a single. Blue sent 12 to the plate in the frame to take a commanding 11-4 lead.

Dumont started the game and allowed one run on two hits and two walks over three innings of work. The right-hander struck out six and retired eight of the first 10 batters he faced. Forkey surrendered one hit and one walk over two scoreless innings relief. Brady Parker (Greece Arcadia) worked two innings and picked up the win.

Shutts went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Cole was 1-for-3 with three RBI and a run. Dumont crossed home three times. Natale collected a hit and an RBI. Anthony Getty (Hilton) walked twice and scored twice. Connor Smith (Webster Thomas) singled and scored a run. Nicholas O’Toole (Greece Athena) drove in a run with a single. Ryan Struzik (Penfield) had an RBI groundout.

Declan Caron (Eastridge) paced the DII Red offense going 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Jacob Sova (Greece Arcadia) drove in Parker Goodness (Greece Athena) with a double.

Jacob Murray (Penfield) brought home Caron with a two-out single in the fifth that tied the game at four. JoJo Guisto (Fairport) added a double. Jackson Frisa (Spencerport) brought in a run with an RBI groundout. Timothy Leary (Northstar Christian) and Thomas Rankin III (Greece Athena) collected a single apiece. Rankin started and struck out three over three innings of work.
