Monday ICBL Wrap: McClare helps Jays climb back into second; Cardinals use big first in win over Ducks

Tim McClare (Finger Lakes CC) won his second straight decision, and the Blue Jays took a half-game lead over the third-place Monarchs in the standings. McClare started and scattered three hits over three shutout innings to improve to 2-0 on the season. The right-hander struck out and walked two. Monday’s outing followed last week’s performance in which he struck out without allowing a hit in a 7-0 win over the Cardinals. Jason Story (Utica College) finished 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored to pace a Jays offense that only needed five hits in the win. Jose Morales singled, walked twice and scored on two occasions. Tyler Holmes (University of Hartford) scored twice and drove in a run. Michael Beimel (St. John Fisher College) and Nolan Hicks collected two RBI apiece. Tyler Curtis (Finger Lakes CC), Sal Cutaia and Brian Oddi, Jr. each scored a run. Tanner Frank (Finger Lakes CC) hurled a scoreless inning in relief. Ryan O’Mara (St. John Fisher) struck out three over three innings of work. Dan Bowman singled and scored the lone Orioles run.

The Cardinals sent 12 to the plate in a six-run first inning with as each batter reached base with two outs. Bobby Sellers (Alfred State) plated Jake Dockum (Westminster College) and Dan Tirabassi (University of Rochester) to highlight the outburst. The Cardinals worked eight walks in the game. Frank McCabe and Nick Ianniello (SUNY Brockport) led the way with two free passes apiece. Dylan Boprey (Houghton College) collected two RBI and a run scored in the contest. Tirabassi, the reigning ICBL Player of the Week tripled and drove in a run. Lucas Jackson brought home a run with a double. Christian Blatter (Mercyhurst University) and Keith Vandyne had an RBI apiece. Michael Contini (Hilbert College) improved to 3-3 on the season. The left-hander struck out four over four innings of work. Sellers worked two shutout innings of relief while Ianniello tossed one scoreless frame on the mound.   

Zack Carpin (Clarkson College) paced the Ducks offense going 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI. Carpin struck out four over 5.1 innings of relief work. Logan Martella-Tasick (Mercyhurst University) and Zachary Harnischfeger (SUNY Brockport) both doubled and drove in a run. Harnischfeger also crossed home.
