Spencerport girls lacrosse broke a 4-4 halftime tie and pulled away to win 12-7 over Honeoye Falls-Lima.

The game started as a battle between uniform number 17. Cougars freshman Paige Kidd scored three.

And Rangers freshman Molly Guzik also netted the hat trick.

In the second half, the DePalma sisters along with senior Hailey Rooney allowed the Rangers to open a lead. Senior Lily DePalma ripped the rope from out top for a 5-4 lead and Rooney added a free position goal to her three assists in the game for a 6-4 advantage.

Ruby DePalma then hit her sister in front for a 7-5 lead before Guzik scored her fourth of the game.

“We’re learning how to control the tempo of the game and read the feel and the vibe of it. Are we pushing too fast, are we not pushing fast enough, how can we clean things up?” said Spencerport coach Patricia Condon.

The Cougars kept after Spencerport. Senior Emma Calcagni scored the first of her two second half goals to close the gap to 8-6 but Lily DePalma answered that with her third of the game.

Livia Fedele scored her second goal of the night while Isabella Buono and Alyssa Nichols scored to close out the game for the Rangers.

“I’ve got to give credit to my draw circle, that’s really our main focus and I think that’s a huge determiner of winning and losing,” Condon said as Lily DePalma (5), Guzik (3) and the Canisius-bound Rooney (6) combined for 14 draw controls for the Rangers (6-6).

The Cougars have a tradition at the end of games, awarding an opposing player a pink ball, given to a player who displays a fighting spirit. Ruby DePalma, a junior who was born without the lower half of her right arm and had four assists in the game, received the honor from HF-L.

“We both come from schools where we’re physical, we work hard, we’re athletic and we’re turning it into lacrosse and I like to see that kind of competition out there,” Condon said in referring to an HF-L program under coach Kevin O’Connell that has won 11 of the last 12 Class C Sectional titles and Condon’s Spencerport teams, which have played in three of the last four Class B Finals.
