Ben Cowles (Newark) connected on his 14th home run of the season to help the Maryland Terrapins to a doubleheader sweep (5-3/12-4) of Illinois in Big Ten action this past weekend.
Cowles drilled a solo shot in the eighth inning of game two, one of his two hits in the game. The junior shortstop has gone yard in every weekend series this season.
Cowles earned Big Ten Player of the Week earlier this season when he connected on five round-trippers as part of a 6-for-14 week.

Having started in all 35 games this season, Cowles is hitting .298 with 19 extra-base hits and 40 RBI. He has worked 14 base on balls and has an on-base percentage of .428.
A two-time Finger Lakes East Player of the Year, he hit .512 with an on-base percentage of .650 for Mike McGavisk’s Newark Reds in 2018. Cowles earned Section V Class B Player of the Year as well as Class B First-Team All-State honors.
Maryland (21-14) hosts Purdue this weekend. The following series at Michigan will include games On Friday and Saturday that are scheduled to be televised on the Big Ten Network.
