Monroe County Baseball gets into full swing this week. Here is the breakdown of Division III with pre-season capsules for Brockport, Canandaigua, Greece Arcadia, Irondequoit and Pittsford Mendon:

BROCKPORT BLUE DEVILS (Class A)

2019 finish: 9-13

Coach: Matt Davis (67-62/eighth year)

Top returners: Tyler Henshaw (Sr. WVU Potomac State commit), Devyn Scheidt (Sr. Keuka College commit)

Top newcomers: Nick Johnson (Sr. P/1B – 6-foot-3), Cooper Hassell (Jr. P/3B/SS – 6-foot-4)

First game: Won 7-4 over Spencerport on Saturday, May 1

Outlook: The Blue Devils have a lot of pitchers that are yet to throw at the varsity level. Can they catch up to the offense and give Brockport a shot at the Division III crown?

CANANDAIGUA BRAVES (Class A)

2019 finish: 18-8, Section V Class A champions, lost to Maine-Endwell in NYS Class A semifinals

Coach: Dale Werth (216-160/17th year)

Top newcomers: Carlos Fantauzzi (Sr. RHP/IF – Onondaga Community College commit), Braden Pawlicki (Sr. RHP/IF – Alfred State commit), Joe Bognanno (Sr. C), Jack Ciranni (Sr. OF/LHP), Chris Moroz (Sr. RHP/UTIL), Sam Boock (Jr. IF/P/UTIL), Callum Outhouse (Jr. OF), Kenyon Mahoney (Jr. LHP/1B), A.J. Debalso (Jr. RHP/OF), Aaron Crunick (Fr. RHP/IF)

First game: Tuesday, May 4 against Wellsville

Outlook: Nobody from Canandaigua’s 2019 state semifinal team remains, so it’s up to the new faces to try and replicate that success. Do the Braves have what it takes to win the Section V Class A title again?

GREECE ARCADIA TITANS (Class A)

2019 finish: 6-14

Coach: Shane Ricci (first year)

Top newcomers: Aaron Ford (Jr. P/3B), Jake Tsymbal (Jr. OF), Tyler Reichert (Jr. P/UTIL), Dom Zona (Fr. OF/P)

First game: Monday, May 3 against Pittsford Mendon

Outlook: Greece Arcadia will take the field without any varsity experience . Will the Titans be able to adjust to the varsity level and be competitive in Division III?

IRONDEQUOIT EAGLES (Class A)

2019 finish: 16-5

Coach: Joey Kuhn (16-5/second year)

Top returners: Jaleel Davis (Sr. SS/P – All-County in 2019, hit .333 with 10 RBI, nine runs scored and six stolen bases, batted .500 in sectionals), Nick Calarco (Sr. P/CF/SS – 0.00 ERA in 5.2 innings in 2019, .913 fielding percentage)

Top newcomers: Joey Wintermute (Sr. P/2B/SS – 6-foot-1, 170 lbs.), Connor Springer (Jr. C/IF/P – 5-foot-8, 175 lbs.), Connor Gresens (So. C/P – 5-foot-11, 200 lbs.), Brodie Froman (So. OF/P – 6-foot-2, 175 lbs.), Brian Tisa (Jr. 1B/OF – 5-foot-10, 165 lbs.), Sam Lessard (Jr. P/IF/OF – 5-foot-11, 170 lbs.), Dillon Fisher (Jr. P/1B – 5-foot-10, 195 lbs.)

First game: Monday, May 3 at home against Brockport

Outlook: The Eagles only have two players with varsity experience, so there are plenty of unknowns. Can Irondequoit get enough contributions from its new players to capture the Division III title?

PITTSFORD MENDON VIKINGS (Class A)

2019 finish: 14-8, lost to Greece Athena in Class A semifinals

Coach: Jeff Amoroso (88-64/ninth season)

Top returners: Cam Blauvelt (Jr. SS/2B)

Top newcomers: Jacob Miller (Jr. RHP/DH), Brendan Kane (Jr. RHP/OF), Daniel Mariani (Jr. RHP/1B), Tommy Petrichick (Sr. OF), Eric Roets (Sr. LHP/OF), Brady Miller (Sr. RHP/2B/SS), Eric Krowl (Jr. RHP/1B/3B)

First game: Monday, May 3 against Greece Arcadia at Greece Olympia

Outlook: Like many other teams, Pittsford Mendon has very few players with varsity experience. Will the Vikings’ newcomers settle in early and help the team back to the Class A semifinals and beyond?
