For the first time in this COVID-shortened season, Jeff Welch’s Canandaigua football team found itself on the wrong side of the score. The Braves regrouped on defense while turning to their best offensive threat and set up a rematch in the Class A final. Dom Comella rushed for 272 yards to lead Canandaigua past Spencerport. Livonia scored on the second play from scrimmage and the Bulldogs’ defense shut down Waterloo in a 50-6 win in the Section V Class C football semifinals on Saturday night. The top-seeded Bulldogs host number two Bath-Haverling in the finals next weekend. READ MORE.

Anthony Brotz, Jr. led the team effort with his all-around performance. On offense, the junior wide receiver scored a touchdown. On defense, he accumulated four interceptions. Logan Keifer dominated on the ground with five rushing touchdowns as Red Jacket advanced to the 8-man football title game. Keifer racked up 330 yards on the ground in 19 carries alongside his five touchdowns. The running back reached the end zone on a 13-yard touchdown, two 40-yard touchdowns, a 60-yard touchdown, and a 66-yard touchdown. Kyle Barmore added two scores through the air with one going to Dalton Hanline from 11 yards out and the other finding Mason Pollot from seven years out. Barmore also reached pay dirt once on the ground from 34 yards out. Parker Moore led the Red Jacket defense with seven tackles including one sack and four tackles for loss. Ethan Lenney chipped in nine tackles including four for loss to go along with a recovered fumble. Rowan Moore recorded a team-high 11 tackles, and Andrew Damore had five tackles and a recovered fumble forced by Kyle Footer. The Indians advanced to the title game and will square off against No. 2 Pembroke.

Senior running back Garrett led the Pembroke offense with five total touchdowns in a shootout victory. Totten carried the ball nine times and accumulated 175 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The senior hauled in three passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Connor Peterson ran the ball 13 times for 93 yards and a touchdown. Peterson completed 4-of-7 passes for 142 yards and three touchdowns. Tyson Totten racked up 59 yards on the ground and one score as well as one reception for 74 yards and a touchdown. Freshman Avery Ferreira scored on a 45-yard kickoff return. The Dragons fought back from an early deficit, as they trailed 30-8 after the first quarter. Peterson led the Dragon defense with a team-high 12 tackles and forced a fumble. Tyson Totten collected 10 tackles and an interception. Keith Neureuter grabbed two interceptions including one returned for a touchdown. Pembroke will play No. 1 Red Jacket for the 8-man title.

Junior fullback Giorden Martin paced the Spartan offense with 104 rushing yards as Gates-Chili moved above .500 to end the season. Martin carried the ball eight times and got the bulk of his yards on a 74-yard fullback trap which ended with Martin in the end zone. Junior De’Marion Mewborn accumulated 99 yards on the ground including two touchdowns from 19 and 36 yards out. Blake Siplin reached the end zone twice, once on a one-yard rushing touchdown and on a 45-yard punt return. Freshman quarterback John Vance completed 4-of-5 passes for 65 yards. Jaimie Smith had a scoop-and-score in the second quarter which was forced by Andrew Newcombe. Senior Ethan Milligan led the Spartan defense with 10.5 tackles including five for a loss.
