Nick Kramer and Brayden Woods combined for 188 rushing yards and two touchdowns as Alexander defeated Notre Dame Batavia, 14-6, in a rematch of last season’s Class D sectional final.
After the Fighting Irish scored in the opening period, Kramer gave the Trojans the lead with a one-yard sneak in the second quarter. Woods extended it with a six-yard touchdown in the third quarter. The junior running back could’ve scored twice in the game, but he had a touchdown rescinded due to a penalty.
Woods led the overall offense with 128 yards on 18 carries. Kramer followed up with 15 carries for 60 yards.
Senior linebacker Devin Dean led a stout defensive effort with nine tackles and a quarterback sack. Junior defensive lineman Gavin Smith-Crandall added five tackles and a fumble recovery. Kramer accumulated four tackles, a pair of sacks and a forced fumble. Stuart Ulrich chipped in two tackles and a fumble recovery.
For Notre Dame Batavia, senior fullback Dylan Warner accounted for all the scoring with a first-quarter touchdown. Sophomore quarterback James Fanara had nine carries for 69 yards. Cody Henry led the defense with 13 tackles. Donato Fiorentino followed up with nine plus a fumble recovery.
Both teams’ regular season finale is Tuesday night. Alexander (3-1) hosts Cuba-Rushford at 7 p.m. Notre Dame Batavia (1-4) travels to Bolivar-Richburg for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
