ERIE, PA – Former Monroe Community College Tribunes Phil Ferranti (Webster Schroeder), Logan Martella-Tasick (Penfield) and Cas Sobaszek (Rush-Henrietta) combined for eights hits and five runs scored as Mercyhurst University swept D’Youville College (12-2/19-2) in non-league action this past weekend.

Ferranti finished 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in the opener. The Mercyhurst catcher led the second inning with a single and moved 90 feet on an error. After he stole third, Ferranti came home with the Lakers’ first run of the day.

Sobaszek went 2-for-2 with a sacrifice and two runs scored. He sparked a three-run fourth with a leadoff double as Mercyhurst went on to push its advantage to 7-0.

Ferranti capped the doubleheader with a 2-for-4 performance in which he drove in a run and scored another. The senior is hitting .366 through 12 games with seven RBI and six runs scored. He has four extra-base hits.

Martella-Tasick drove in a pair of runs with a two-out, pinch-hit single in the fourth inning.

Mercyhurst improved to 9 wins and 3 losses with the sweep. The Lakers climbed to No. 2 in the NCBWA East Region Poll.

Mercyhurst opens Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play with a doubleheader at Gannon University on Friday.

Both Ferranti and Sobaszek earned spots on the MCC All-Decade team.
