One team is looking to win its second sectional title in three years. The other is seeking its third in five years. Undefeated Pittsford Mendon and Monroe County Division II champion Irondequoit will match up in sectionals for the second straight year to decide the 2021 Class A1 Boys’ Basketball Championship. How they got here: Pittsford Mendon defeated No. 8 Churchville-Chili, 84-46, in the quarterfinals before downing fourth-seeded Leadership Academy, 81-63, in the semis.
Irondequoit beat Brighton by a 75-51 score in the quarterfinals and took down Webster Thomas, 61-51, in the semis.
Last time they met: Irondequoit defeated Pittsford Mendon, 53-51, in last year’s Class A1 sectional semifinals.

History 101: Pittsford Mendon is seeking its second sectional title in three years. In 2019, the Vikings won the Class A1 championship and advanced to the New York State final en route to a 26-1 record. Irondequoit is making its second consecutive sectional final appearance. Last season, the Eagles fell in Class A1 to Eastridge, 52-43. The Eagles won back-to-back Class A1 sectional titles in 2017 and 2018. Gerald Drumgoole earned Tournament MVP honors both times while leading the Eagles to 45 wins in 50 games over that span, including a 2017 state title.
A 5 p.m. tip off is scheduled at Pittsford Mendon High School.
