The higher seed has won every game in the Class C1 girls’ basketball tournament, setting up a matchup between the top two seeds. Both East Rochester and Avon have won their sectional games by double digits, but only one team can win the final. Here’s the breakdown:
No. 1 seed EAST ROCHESTER BOMBERS (12-1/Wayne County) vs. No. 2 seed AVON BRAVES (11-1/Livingston County Division II)
Scoring offense: East Rochester (61.7 PPG), Avon (46.1 PPG)
Scoring defense: East Rochester (37.5 PPG), Avon (29.0 PPG)
Current streak: East Rochester has won seven consecutive games since its lone loss to Our Lady of Mercy; Avon has won seven straight since its loss to Livonia.
How they got here: East Rochester defeated No. 8 Lyons 84-44 before beating No. 4 Alexander 63-34.
Avon topped No. 7 Gananda 42-32 in the quarterfinals. The Braves then toppled No. 3 Canisteo-Greenwood 49-31 in the semifinals.
Last time they met: Avon defeated East Rochester 49-45 in the Class C1 tournament in 2018.

History 101: Last season, East Rochester lost to Byron-Bergen in the Class C1 quarterfinals. Avon lost in the Class B2 final to Penn Yan last season, but won the Class C1 championship in 2018. The Braves then lost to Oakfield-Alabama in the Section V Class C regional qualifier.
The Class C1 championship will be on the line on Friday, March 12 at 6 p.m. at East Rochester High School.
