Junior guard Ella Fadale scored 13 of her 28 points in the second quarter, part of a 26-3 run for Brockport in a 72-20 win over Eastridge.

The Lancers kept in close early, working in the paint and holding Brockport to a 7-6 lead.

But Gisela Allen scored three straight buckets, all off steals, and the Blue Devils led 15-9 after one.

Brockport’s defense continued to make passing difficult for Eastridge, with Allen, Fadale and Emma Laureano working out top and running in transition, the lead grew to 41-12 at the half.

“Our guards can really get after it on the defense end,” said Brockport coach Justin Laureano. “Over the course of the last two seasons, we’ve tried to transfer our defensive mindset from a zone team to a man-to-man team.”

Allen chipped in 17 points and Laureano 14 for Brockport and all three guards had six steals.

The Blue Devils fell to Pittsford Mendon in the sectional finals two seasons ago and loss to Canandaigua in the quarterfinals last year and even though states isn’t an option this season, the Blue Devils are ready to contend.

“I said, we can take this one of two ways; we can have 10 or 11 games and just be satisfied with whatever happens or we can come in super focused, day one, grind it out and see where the chips lay at the end of the season and who’s on top at the end of the season, “ Laureano said of the COVID-shortened schedule. “Our goal is to win a sectional championship, like it always is, and that hasn’t changed.”

Next up, the Blue Devils hit the road Saturday to face Greece Arcadia.
