Senior CJ James scored nine of his game-high 15 points in the second quarter as Victor doubled up Fairport 52-26.
Connor Williams added 12 points and Chase Dickens 10 for the visiting Blue Devils looking to defend their Monroe County title.
The 7’0” Williams scored six points in the first half and a nice pass out of the block to a cutting Will Tehan gave Victor an early 11-3 advantage.
“He’s almost like a guard in a post player’s body, he’s like a point-center almost,” coach Tyler Roberts said of Williams, who is committing to hoops over football for college.
In the second, Victor got in transition and James found himself open in the paint on several trips as the Blue Devils’ lead burgeoned to 28-9 at one point, winding up at 31-14 at the break.
The defense locked it up in third, allowing the Red Raiders just two points in the quarter. Both James and Phil Nwugwo throwing down dunks in the quarter.
Roberts says of James, “He fits in well with our team, he moves the ball, he’s committed to defense, he’s a great rebounder, I can’t say enough good things about CJ.”
Coming off a 20-2 season, the Blue Devils realize this is just one victory on the road to a sectional title. They’ll play their home opener against a strong Rush-Henrietta squad on Friday.
