Senior forwards Jay Huff and Sam Hauser both had 21-point contributions as the Virginia Cavaliers tied a program record defeating its 15 straight ACC opponent dating back to last season.
Huff shot 8-of-11 from the field and grabbed 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the season, while all of Hauser’s points came from behind the three-point line, shooting 7-of-13 from beyond the arc. Trey Murphy III had a 16-point, seven-rebound performance for UVA.
As a team, Virginia shot 45 percent (14-31) from three compared to Syracuse shooting a 21 percent (5-24) clip. The Orange did not convert a three-pointer until five minutes remained in the first half, missing their previous seven attempts.
The Cavaliers won the rebound battle 41-28, and in the assist department 23-10. After their early 12-0 run in the first half to go up eight, Virginia remained in the lead for the final 35:35 of the contest.
Quincy Guerrier led Syracuse in scoring with 15 points on 6-16 shooting and seven boards, while Alan Griffin posted 13 points, eight rebounds and two assists.

Miles McBride’s contested go-ahead jumper with six seconds remaining completed the second-half comeback as the Mountaineers guard scored a season-high 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists. McBride had 19 points in the second half, shooting 6-7 from the field, 2-2 from three, and 5-6 from the free-throw line.
West Virginia had a 10-point lead with five minutes remaining in the first half before the Red Raiders went on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 39 apiece going into intermission.
Mac McClung led all scorers with 30 points, with 24 of his points coming in the last 20 minutes of play to put Texas Tech up 12 with 7:11 remaining. The Mountaineers then had an 8-0 of their own in just a 1:13 to cut the deficit to four as they converted on 10 of their last 10 possessions to end the game.
McBride made a three-pointer to tie, and McClung answered with a three of his own to go up 87-84. After a Taz Sherman lay-up and a Texas Tech miss on their next possession, which lead to the McBride game-winner.
Sherman, Jordan McCabe, Derek Culver, Jalen Bridges, and Sean McNeil were all double-digit scorers for West Virginia as they shot 58 percent (30-52) and 63 percent (12-19) from three as a team.
Terrence Shannon Jr. had 15 points off the bench for the Red Raiders, while Jamarius Burton and Marcus Santos-Silva both finished with nine.
