FORT MYERS, Fla. – Center Andre Weir (Hollywood, Fla./Chaminade-Madonna College Prep/Richmond) has officially joined the FGCU men’s basketball program after spending the fall semester at the University of Richmond, announced Eagles’ head coach Michael Fly today.
Per NCAA Transfer Rules, the 6-foot-10, 265-pound freshman is not eligible to suit up for the Green and Blue this season. Weir will have at least four seasons of eligibility following this year.
“We are really excited to have Andre join our program,” said head coach Michael Fly. “We thought very highly of him coming out of Chaminade-Madonna College Prep and he has been well coached in both high school and AAU. With his size and skillset, Andre should help solidify our frontcourt for the foreseeable future.”
While at Richmond, Weir did not officially see game action for the Spiders. In his senior campaign at Chaminade-Madonna College Prep, Weir led the program to the Florida Class 3A semifinals – the school’s best run in the state tournament in a 53-year span. He averaged 19 points and 14 rebounds in 2019-20 and was an All-Broward County First Team selection. He was rated as the No. 16 recruit in Florida’s Class of 2020 by FloridaHoops.com.
