Geneseo and Byron-Bergen to decide Girls’ Class C2 title

One team is making its second sectional final appearance in three years. The other secured its fourth consecutive season of at least 11 victories. Top seeds Geneseo and Byron-Bergen will meet Wednesday to decide the 2020 Section V Class C2 Girls’ Soccer Championship. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed GENESEO LADY BLUE DEVILS (14-0-0/Livingston County Division III) vs. No. 2 seed BYRON-BERGEN LADY BEES (11-4-0/Genesee County Division I)

How they got here: Geneseo beat No. 8 seed Elba/Oakfield-Alabama, 2-1, in the quarterfinals and fifth-seeded Bolivar-Richburg, 6-nil. Byron-Bergen won both of its sectional games, 1-nil, over No. 7 seed Kendall and No. 6 seed Marion.

Total goals scored: Geneseo (75), Byron-Bergen (22)

Total goals allowed: Geneseo (2), Byron-Bergen (11)

Trends: Geneseo has won 14 straight games, outscoring opponents by 73 combined goals. Byron-Bergen won its last seven games while only allowing three goals.

History 101: Geneseo is making its second sectional final appearance in three years. In 2018, the Lady Blue Devils fell to Marion in the Class C2 championship, 2-nil. Byron-Bergen secured its fourth consecutive season of at least 11 victories. The Lady Bees have compiled a record of 48-17-3 over that span
