One team is making its third straight sectional final appearance. The other is seeking its second title in four years. Fillmore and Arkport-Canaseraga will meet Thursday to decide the 2020 Section V Class D1 Girls’ Soccer Championship. Here’s the breakdown:
No. 1 seed FILLMORE LADY EAGLES (14-0-0/Allegany County Division I) vs. No. 3 seed ARKPORT-CANASERAGA LADY WOLVES (10-1-0/Steuben County Division II)
How they got here: Fillmore defeated No. 8 seed Charles G. Finney, 5-1, in the quarterfinals and fourth-seeded Keshequa, 3-2, in the semifinals. Arkport-Canaseraga has shut out both of its sectional opponents: No. 6 seed Alfred-Almond, 1-nil, and seventh-seeded Genesee Valley, 5-nil.

History 101: Fillmore is making its third straight sectional final appearance and seeking its second straight title. The Lady Eagles had previously faced Kendall in both appearances, winning, 3-nil, last season and losing, 2-1, in 2018. Arkport-Canseraga is seeking its second sectional title in four years. The Lady Wolves won the 2017 Class D1 championship. This is the second straight year Fillmore and Arkport-Canaseraga will match up in sectionals. The Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Wolves, 1-nil, in last year’s quarterfinals.
A 6 p.m. kickoff is scheduled at Fillmore High School.
