Semifinal Preview: Girls’ Soccer Class A

Three teams from the same division and one from the Private/Parochial division highlight the semifinal round of Section V Class A girls’ soccer. Both contests kick off Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed SPENCERPORT LADY RANGERS (13-0-0/Monroe County Division II) vs. No. 4 seed BRIGHTON LADY BARONS (9-2-1/Monroe County Division II)

How they got here: Spencerport opened sectional play with a 5-nil win over No. 9 seed Greece Athena in the quarterfinals. Brighton shut out No. 13 seed Greece Arcadia, 4-nil, in the first round and defeated No. 5 seed Pittsford Sutherland, 2-1, in the quarterfinals.

Total goals scored: Spencerport (41), Brighton (26)

Total goals allowed: Spencerport (4), Brighton (12)

Last time they met: Spencerport defeated Brighton, 4-1, on the last day of the regular season on November 7th.

Trends: Spencerport has won 10 of its 13 games this season via shutout. Brighton has won six of seven overall.

No. 6 seed CHURCHVILLE-CHILI LADY SAINTS (7-4-1/Monroe County Division II) vs. No. 7 seed OUR LADY OF MERCY MONARCHS (7-3-0/Private-Parochial Division I)

How they got here: Churchville-Chili opened sectional play with a 2-1 win over No. 11 seed Brockport in the first round. The Lady Saints continued with a 2-nil quarterfinal victory over third-seeded Honeoye Falls-Lima. Our Lady of Mercy defeated Aquinas, 2-1, in the first round and took down reigning sectional finalist Pittsford Mendon, 3-2, in the quarterfinals.

Total goals scored: Churchville-Chili (23), Our Lady of Mercy (24)

Total goals allowed: Churchville-Chili (13), Our Lady of Mercy (15)

Trends: Churchville-Chili has won three straight. Our Lady of Mercy has won five of six.
