Cary VanNewkirk paced the offense of a Honeoye Falls-Lima squad which won 14 games and finished as the top seed in Class A2. The 6-foot senior collected 24 hits in 65 at-bats (.369 batting average) last season, including six doubles, three triples and three home runs.
VanNewkirk led the Cougars in RBI (27) and was third in runs scored (21). He posted a .414 on-base percentage and .692 slugging percentage as well. VanNewkirk drew five walks and swiped a base.
VanNewkirk’s season-best performances in 2019 included going 3-of-4 with a double, three RBI and four runs scored on May 2nd in a 23-0 win over Leadership Academy and four hits, including a double, four RBI and four runs scored on May 8th in a 29-0 win over Greece Odyssey.
Honeoye Falls-Lima’s 14 victories included two wins over sectional semifinalists Greece Odyssey and Rush-Henrietta, Class A2 sectional runner-up Eastridge and Class B1 sectional champion Batavia.
