Slotted as the No. 3 pitcher behind Zach Ciprich and Tim McClare, Patrick Walsh played a valuable role in Gananda’s run last season which resulted in a sectional title and a state semifinals berth. The 5-foot-8 pitcher posted a 3-1 record with a 0.92 earned run average last season.
Walsh’s earned run average ranked second on the staff and wins third. He finished third in appearances (12), batters faced (127), innings (30 1/3), pitches thrown (509), runs allowed (seven) and strikeouts (61). Walsh was fourth in opponents’ batting average (.156) as well. The 5-foot-8 pitcher did not concede a run until his 11th appearance of the season.
At the plate, Walsh recorded 23 hits in 67 at-bats (.343 batting average), including six doubles and a triple. He finished tied for second in plate appearances (95), tied for third in doubles, third in on-base percentage (.516) and fourth in base knocks, batting average and slugging percentage (.462). Walsh tallied 33 RBI, drew 26 walks, scored 24 runs and swiped three bags. The 5-foot-8 junior had nine games with two or more RBI and six with three or more.
Defensively on the mound, at first base and in the outfield, Walsh only committed four errors in 38 total chances (.895 fielding percentage). He turned a pair of double plays, posted five assists and 29 put outs as well.
Walsh appeared in 15 games as a freshman and registered eight hits in 25 at-bats (.320 batting average). He generated nine RBI and scored six runs.
