Gates-Chili sophomore Terah Echols started all 21 games for the Spartans and was named to the Monroe County Division II first team just a year after missing most of the season due to a torn ACL. Echols averaged 11.5 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.3 blocks during her third season on the varsity squad.
The 5-foot-10-inch forward recorded seven double-doubles in her 20-game campaign. She was the Spartans’ third-leading scorer and second-leading rebounder. During Gates-Chili’s Christmas tournament, of which Echols was named MVP, the sophomore had two monster games.
In the semifinal win over Honeoye Falls-Lima she scored 21 points and grabbed 20 rebounds, while Echols posted 17 points and 18 boards the next day in the finals against Spencerport. When the Spartans took on Churchville-Chili, the forward poured in 16 points and ripped down 15 rebounds. Echols also knocked down a three against the Saints, which is an area she has been improving.
One of the few games the rising junior didn’t match her double figure points with rebounds was against Webster Schroeder, when she scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Echols, a two-time captain, plays AAU for the Bobcats. Next season will be her fourth at the varsity level. She combines with teammate Miriam Ibezim (6-foot-1-inch) to give the Spartans an imposing frontcourt.
