Pittsford Mendon freshman Jackson Green started every game for the reigning NYS runner-ups, resulting in 16 wins, the No. 4 seed in Class A1 and a spot in the sectional semifinals. The Monroe County All-League selectee averaged 13.1 points, 5.5 boards, 2.4 assists, 1.8 steals and one deflection per game.
Green’s scoring average ranked fifth in Monroe County Division III behind teammate Jacob Shadders (22.9), Brighton senior Matthew Falter (18.0), Pittsford Sutherland senior Ben DiGiovanni (15.5) and Pittsford Sutherland sophomore Jalyn Moorehead (14.5).
Green shot 47 percent (106-of-224) from the field and 77 percent (66-of-86) from the free throw line. The 6-foot-1 guard scored double figures 17 times. He reached the 20-point plateau in three games, including a career-high 24 on January 31st against Brighton. In the 87-71 win, the freshman guard converted 8-of-12 field goals, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, and four foul shots. Green grabbed seven rebounds, handed out two assists, swatted a shot and swiped a steal as well.
Green’s other 20-point performances were 22 points on December 18th at Eastridge and 23 points on February 19th in a 68-62 win over Brockport.
Last spring, the 6-foot-1 guard played AAU for the Rochester Area Players (RAP). This upcoming season, Green plans to suit up for the Rochester City Rocks. The freshman guard will return with leading Jacob Shadders in the backcourt for another deep postseason run.
