Vinny Molisani led Caledonia-Mumford to consecutive sectional titles. Mason Putnam eclipsed the the 2,000-point individual scoring mark.
The pair earned first team All-State honors as announced by the New York State Sportswriters’ Association on Thursday.
Molisani averaged 21.9 points with 6.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game in leading the Raiders to the Class C3 title. Cal-Mum defeated Marcus Whitman in the sub-regional and Lyons in the regional qualifier to advance to the NYS quarter-finals for the first time since 1979. The state was forced to postpone the regionals in response to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.
Molisani is the first player from the Cal-Mum boys’ program to earn first team state honors. Putnam averaged 32.8 this season and finished his career with 2,515 points. The senior guard collected 6.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 4.7 steals to earn Steuben County Player of the Year. Putnam was a second team member a year ago.
Prattsburgh claimed the D1 Section V title before falling in the qualifier.
Molisani’s teammate, Joe Laursen, joined him on the Class C fifth team. Laursen scored 14.1 points and grabbed 9.2 rebounds per game.
C.G. Finney freshman Markus Robinson led Section V in scoring 43.5 points per game and was named to second team Class C while York’s Riley Stella earned third team. Stella averaged 20.1 points and 8.3 boards as he led the Knights to their fourth sectional finals appearance in five years. The senior forward completed his four-year varsity career with 1,012 points. Finger Lakes West Player of the Year Chase Rizzo earned a spot on the Class C fourth team. The senior forward scored 19.0 points, grabbed eight rebounds and swatted 2.1 shots per game as he led Red Jacket to a 21-2 record, the top seed in Class C1 and a sectional finals appearance.
Joey Burdick (Oakfield-Alabama) grabbed a place on the sixth team. Carson DeVinney (Perry) earned sixth team after averaging a double-double of 11.8 points and 11 boards. Wayne County Player of the Year Camden Chance (Clyde-Savannah) nabbed a spot on the ninth team. The junior guard netted 24.6 points, corralled 11.8 rebounds and swiped 4.1 steals as he led the Golden Eagles to a 15-5 record and the No. 3 seed in Class C2. Chance has scored 1,174 points in three seasons.
Finger Lakes East Player of the Year Devon Martin led Geneva to its first ever regional appearance and was named fifth team Class B while Greece Odyssey’s Jaden Hartsfield earned a spot on the eighth team. Martin averaged 15.7 points, 8.9 boards and 2.5 assists. Hartsfield scored 20.7 points per game, which ranked third in Monroe County Division IV and seventh in the entire county. The senior guard poured in 1,183 points in three seasons.
Livonia’s Alex Minnehan earned 11th team. Max Jusianiec (Wellsville) grabbed a 12th-team spot, and Avon’s Nick Rowland was named to the Class B 15th team. Jusianiec completed his varsity career with 1,185 points. Rowland averaged a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds for an Avon squad which won 17 games and its first sectional title since 2009.
Genesee Region Player of the Year Colton Dillon (Elba) earned second team Class D honors. The senior forward poured in 26 points and hauled in 14 boards per game as he led the Lancers to a 19-4 record, the top seed in Class D2 and a sectional finals appearance. Dillon completed his three-year varsity career with 1,363 points. Gabe Macdonald (Notre Dame-Batavia) was named fourth team Class D along with Avoca’s Tristan Stark. Stark netted 15 points and collected 8.6 rebounds per game for a Tigers squad that compiled a 23-1 record and was set to compete in regionals.
Dom Trippi (Honeoye) earned a fifth team nod while Jonathan Jensen (Avoca) and Jordan Sutryk (Bradford) were named to the sixth team. Avoca sophomore Pacey Hopkins was named Class D seventh team.
