Conor Shafer’s bucket pushed top-seed Irondequoit past four-seed Pittsford Mendon, 53-51, on Wednesday night at Webster Schroeder High School. After trailing 51-40, the Eagles scored the game’s final 13 points to win. Keenan Robertson scored 22 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, while Luke Melidona added 11 with eight coming in the fourth. Three-seed Eastridge pulled away in the second half to beat two-seed Leadership, 56-38, on Wednesday night at Webster Schroeder High School. It was the fewest points scored by Leadership this season, after the prior low was 56. Arnold led the way for Eastridge with 20 points, while Hannah’s 14 and Percy Robinson’s 12 joined him in double figures. After trailing by as many as 15 points early in the third quarter, the Knights staged a furious rally, capped off by a 9-1 run to cut their deficit to 53-52 and force an Eagles’ timeout. From there, Barley made his own adjustment: put the ball in the hands of his leading scorer for the past two seasons. The East High head coach knew his team had lost momentum and had to ride or die with his best player. Therefore, Harris-Scott ran the offense and brought the ball up for the rest of the game. Wednesday night at Gates-Chili High School, the Panthers pulled out yet another improbable win, defeating Wayne, 71-68, to advance to their second sectional final in the last three years. Avon boys’ basketball coach Rob Fries didn’t trust his defense much earlier in the season. That sentiment has changed, and the second quarter of Wednesday’s Section V Class B2 semi-final is evidence to that.
