ROCHESTER, NY — Junior forward Jake Hamacher scored two of RIT’s three goals as the Tigers tied Robert Morris a day after defeating the Atlantic Hockey foe, 4-1. Robert Morris managed to snag the extra conference point with a game-winning-goal in the second period of overtime.
With just under two minutes remaining in the first, Hamacher scored his first of the night on the power-play, tying the game at one. At the 3:10 mark into the second, senior forward Jordan Peacock netted his first goal of the year to put RIT up 2-1. Eight minutes later, Hamacher doubled the lead on a feed from freshman forward Caleb Moretz.
Freshman defenseman Ryan Nicholson finished with a career-high three assists, one from each Tiger tally. Senior forward Shawn Cameron and sophomore Merritt Oszytko also collected an assist apiece.
The Colonials’ Nick Lalonde opened scoring seven and a half minutes into the game, eight seconds after returning to full strength. Late in the second, Daniel Mantenuto notched a power-play tally to cut the lead to 3-2. Aidan Spellacy tied the game for Robert Morris in the dying minutes of the third period to force overtime.
RIT junior goaltender Logan Drackett stopped 34-of-36 shots through 65-plus minutes. Up by one, he made 20 saves in the third period before the game-tying goal snuck through a scrum in front.
The tie is RIT’s fourth of the season and its first since the shootout victory over Canisius in early January. The Tigers are 1-3 when continuing games after regulation and are currently 4-1-1 in their last six outings.
The Tigers will face Bentley University on Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb 15 on home ice.
