ROCHESTER, N.Y. — RJ Wilkins hit the game-winner at the buzzer to give Penfield the victory in its only game last week. Keenan Robertson led Irondequoit in a 49-point victory. Jacob Shadders sealed Pittsford Mendon’s win with a double-double. Zac Gilebarto scored 32 points to lead Batavia to its fourth straight win.
Each squad played one game this week, and these four shined during that contest. For that, they earned Monroe County Player of the Week (Dec. 30-Jan. 4) for their respective division.
Wilkins chucked the game-winning shot from about 30 feet out, as Penfield took down Wayne 60-59. The junior guard did just as much to get his team within reach as he did to win the game to earn Monroe County Division I Player of the Week (POTW). The junior connected on 18 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter. He hit four three-pointers and three of his four attempts at the line. Wilkins also grabbed ten rebounds and five steals. Penfield returns to its home court on Wednesday, January 8 to face Churchville-Chili.
Robertson nearly outscored the opposition in Irondequoit’s 83-34 win. The six-foot-five junior shot 10 of 15 from the field and five of six from the line on his way to 27 points and Monroe County Division II POTW. He also grabbed three rebounds and blocked three shots. Robertson and the Eagles travel to Rush-Henrietta on Wednesday, January 8 for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
Pittsford Mendon defeated Webster Thomas by six with Shadders leading the way. READ MORE. He finished with a double-double, 22 points and 11 rebounds to earn DIII POTW. The junior guard connected on seven of 15 shots and handed out six assists. Mendon will face Fairport at home on Monday, January 6 at 7:15 p.m.
Only a sophomore, Gilebarto nailed a season-high 32 points against North Tonawanda. He shot 64 percent overall with six shots from behind the arc and six from the line. He pulled five rebounds and handed three assists. Batavia was undefeated during the holiday break, in part to the guard’s performances, and moved to four straight wins. Batavia is scheduled to face Charter School of Applied Technologies on Monday, January 6.
