Twelve Section V boys basketball teams were ranked in the latest polls of the New York State Sportswriters Association. The rankings were released Tuesday morning.
Class AA features UPrep (7-2) at No. 25 as the lone team from Section V. The Griffins rose from No. 29 a week ago after losing to Leadership and beating Webster Schroeder in the Dianetti Tournament at Aquinas.
In Class A, East (8-0) remains at No. 5 for the second-straight week after not playing over Christmas week. Leadership (8-1) stays at No. 17 while Eastridge (7-2) fell three spots to No. 25.
No Section V teams from Class B were ranked. Four teams were ranked in Class C: No. 5 Lyons (7-0), No. 10 Caledonia-Mumford (8-1), No. 13 Marcus Whitman (6-2) and No. 16 Red Jacket (9-0).

Class D also features four ranked teams from Section V. Prattsburgh (6-1) sits highest at No. 6, while No. 7 Elba (5-1), No. 9 Avoca (5-1) and No. 11 Genesee Valley (5-1) also remain in the rankings. Prattsburgh’s Mason Putnam has scored 1,995 points in his high school career and will go for 2,000 on Jan. 6 when the Vikings play at Arkport-Canaseraga.
