ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The senior duo of Tyrone House and Tahjir King combined for 42 points as Franklin defeated Early College, 62-43, and won its first game of the season.
House scored six of his game-high 24 points during an 8-1 run near the end of the third quarter as the Quakers extended their lead to a commanding 49-32 advantage.
“That 1-3-1 (zone) threw them off,” Franklin head coach Eddie Lee said. “We had our long arms. Our guys were a little active in that 1-3-1 and that really shut them down.”
“We’ve always been small with little guards and we’d gone with the press. Now, we got a little taller. It’ll be tough for them guys to shoot over the top with King and House.”
House finished a pair of putbacks as he made three layups during the run. Senior forward Kentonio Kelly converted a layup as well.
“We had a bigger lineup,” Lee said. “Just seeing who can do what and that started with the young guys.”
House grabbed nine rebounds, swiped four steals and handed out an assist.

King netted 11 of his 18 points in the first half as Franklin surged to a 36-21 lead. The senior forward snatched a team-high 13 boards, swatted six shots, dished out a pair of assists and had a steal.
“Them guys should have a double-double every game,” Lee said about House and King. “The way they slash to the basket.”

Kelly scored eight points, collected eight assists, corralled six rebounds and had three steals. Freshman center Alex Rosario netted six points and Teriq Johnson added four. Gary Simms had two points to round out the scoring for Franklin.
“I just got to find out who can play at what position,” Lee said. “These guys got to know what they can and cannot do. Last game, we shot a lot of threes. This game, we attacked the basket.”
“They all shared the ball. That’s we going to have to do because we’re really not that loaded. We go five or six deep. We got to share the ball and we got to get them guys their rest at the proper time.”
For Early College, Sam Jackson scored 12 of his team-high 14 points through the first 16 minutes of game action. Jaequon Nesmith netted 11 points and Jovan Sargent knocked down a pair of long-range shots en route to 10.
