Football Far West Regional Preview: Class C

A spot in the New York State semifinals is up for grabs when Section V and Section VI meet at the College at Brockport this upcoming weekend for the Football Far West Regionals. Here’s the breakdown:

SOUTHWESTERN TROJANS (10-0) vs. LETCHWORTH/WARSAW (9-1)

How they arrived here: Top-seeded Southwestern (No. 2 NYSSWA) opened sectionals with a 49-16 win over Silver Creek. The Trojans continued with a 49-6 victory over Chautauqua Lake and a 53-21 triumph over Wilson in the finals.

Letchworth/Warsaw (No. 10 NYSSWA) downed No. 6 Dansville, 33-0, in the quarterfinals before beating Attica (35-21) and LeRoy (26-6) to win their second straight sectional title.

Points scored per game: Southwestern (43.2), Letchworth/Warsaw (28.7)
Points allowed per game: Southwestern (6.7), Letchworth/Warsaw (8.5)

Players to watch: Southwestern – Dom Certo Sr. WR, DB 702 receiving yards, 9 touchdowns, 15 tackles, 3 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery; Aidan Kennedy So. QB, DB 1,535 passing yards, 24 touchdowns; Cooper Pannes Sr. OL, DL 42 tackles, 9 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries; Tywon Wright Sr. RB, LB 1,252 rushing yards, 145 receiving yards, 22 touchdowns, 33 tackles, 4 sacks, 1 interception, 1 fumble recovery

Letchworth/Warsaw – Joshua Andrews Sr. RB, LB 424 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns, 41 tackles, 2 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries; Eddie Stores Jr. WR, DB 263 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns, 21 tackles, 2 interceptions; Brett Vasile Sr. QB, DB 575 passing yards, 267 rushing yards, 15 touchdowns, 24.5 tackles, 1 interception

Coaches: Jake Burkholder (Southwestern), Justin Mann (Letchworth/Warsaw)

What they’re saying: Mann – “Southwestern is a talented football team and a powerhouse in Section VI. They are well-coached and have athletes all over the field. We have to be technically and fundamentally sound in all three phases.”

What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Class C semifinals against the winner of Lowville (III) vs. Susquehanna Valley (IV).

A 12 p.m. kickoff is scheduled Saturday afternoon at the College at Brockport.
