Section V Football Semifinal Preview: Class C

Honeoye Falls-Lima High School hosts the 2019 Section V Class C semifinals. LeRoy is looking to get in position to win its first title since 2013. East Rochester/Gananda hasn’t claimed the crown since 2012. Attica has never won a sectional title. Letchworth/Warsaw is the defending champion. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed LEROY KNIGHTS (8-0) vs. No. 4 seed EAST ROCHESTER/GANANDA BOMBERS (6-2)

How they got here: LeRoy (No. 6 NYSSWA Class C) opened with a 19-0 shutout of No. 8 seed Avon. East Rochester/Gananda rallied to defeat Caledonia-Mumford/Byron Bergen, 22-20.

Last time they met: LeRoy defeated East Rochester/Gananda, 32-7, in Week 2 of the regular season.

Trends: LeRoy went from playing in the Connors & Ferris C1 Bowl last season to an undefeated record and the top seed this year. The Knights’ defense has allowed only 71 points this season. East Rochester/Gananda has won four straight, averaging 41.8 points per game in that stretch.

History 101: LeRoy is seeking their 16th sectional title in program history and first since 2013. The Knights won three straight championships twice: 1994-1996 and 2006-2008. East Rochester/Gananda is seeking their fourth sectional title in program history and first since winning the class B championship in 2012. The Bombers won back-to-back class A titles in 1984 and 1985.

A 4 p.m. kickoff is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School.

No. 2 seed ATTICA BLUE DEVILS (8-0) vs. No. 3 seed LETCHWORTH/WARSAW (7-1)

How they got here: Attica (No. 11 NYSSWA Class C) opened with a 43-20 victory over No. 7 seed Penn Yan. Letchworth/Warsaw (No. 15 NYSSWA Class C) shut out Dansville, 33-0.

Last time they met: This is a rematch of last year’s sectional final. Letchworth/Warsaw won, 13-7.
