BROCKPORT, N.Y. — At the start of the 2019 season, it took the Brockport boys’ soccer team six games to earn its first multi-goal performance and six more to reach the 10 goal mark. Fast forward to the Blue Devils’ last game of the season and the squad was heading into the match with seven goals in its previous four.
For 12 seniors on the Brockport roster, it would be their last time playing as a Blue Devil on home turf. Whether it be the production of an improved offense or the adrenaline of Senior Night, Brockport recorded its most dominant win of the year with a 10-0 shutout over Greece Odyssey.
Coming off an unassisted effort, Tyler Daly gave Brockport a lead it wouldn’t surrender two minutes into the match. Ten minutes later, Sean Keenan doubled the lead with a chip from outside the box, beating Odyssey goalie Omar Ashkar for his third goal of the year.

Brockport had complete control of the match from the start, only allowing Odyssey to enter its offensive end on long balls that were eventually sent back by the backfield.
At the midway point of the opening half, senior Ryan Daly scored his first of the year to make it 3-0. Less than a minute later, Nick VanWie added his first of the year.
“I was excited to come out on our last home game as seniors,” VanWie said in response to scoring his first goals of the year. “And I thought it went well. Everyone played hard so I’m real proud of the team.”
The second half featured a scorching hot start from the Blue Devils as the team registered five goals in under 20 minutes.
After assisting on VanWie’s second tally of the night two minutes into the half, Tyler Daly buried his second of the game shortly after to increase the lead to six.
Battling the increasing wind and a pushed up Blue Devil defense, Greece Odyssey was unable to advance the ball past half. As a result, Brockport’s relentless offensive pressure allowed Ryan Daly to complete a hat trick with two consecutive tallies.

“It’s a great feeling, especially when we have been struggling at home and on the road,” Ryan Daly said. “To come out on senior night and score a couple goals is a great feeling.”
After the majority of Brockport’s seniors were subbed out, the team’s final two goals came from juniors Luke Leach and Matt Rennie. Leach’s first of the season was the result of a wind-helped corner kick that bended into the net. Rennie’s was a put back rocket that stemmed from the end line as well.
“I think this was a very good game for us to play just to get our confidence up,” Ryan Daly said. “Hopefully we can keep scoring going into next week because that’d be big for us.”
On the night where Brockport’s seniors were honored, eight of the 10 goals were scored by four different seniors.
“It gives our guys confidence since we’ve had trouble scoring goals this year,” head coach Jeff Phillips said. “Our league we play in is brutal and goals are tough to come by. We battled and battled and battled in our league, but we had a hard time coming away with some big wins.”
As of now, Brockport currently possesses the seventh seed in the Class A1 bracket.
“I think it’s going to give us a little upbeat going into sectionals after scoring 10 goals,” Phillips noted. “There’s still a lot up in the air with the games going on tonight. Whether we’re going to be a sixth, seventh or eighth seed I believe that in our bracket anybody can knock anybody off.”
