Zach Merlo (Fairport) roped an RBI double in the first frame and closed out the last two innings of the game as DII Blue won a close 3-0 matchup in Upstate Baseball League action at the University of Rochester. Merlo’s only hit of the game proved to be the difference and the left hander came in to strikeout four and only allow one hit to earn the save.

Tommy Derleth (Fairport) went 2-for-2 with an inside-the-park home run in the fourth to extend the DII Blue lead. He also had a single in the sixth.

DII Blue added an insurance run in the top half of the seventh as Anthony Marcella (Brighton) scored from third after the throw from the catcher rolled into the outfield.

AJ DeBalso (Canandaigua), Sal Timpani and Marcella each recorded a hit in the game for DII Blue.
Chuck Sobaszek (Rush-Henrietta) earned the start and worked 3.0 scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit and fanned two. Mason Haarr came in relief and recored 2.0 innings while surrendering two hits and had two strikeouts.

DII Red mustered four hits on the evening. Joseph Grzeskowiak (Rush Henrietta), Mark Veerkamp and Jackson Rucker (Fairport) each had a single. Zach Prior roped a triple in the seventh.
Josh Winter took the bump for DII Red and had 2.o innings thrown. He gave up one run on one hit and had three strikeouts with three walks. Dillon Kelly (Rush Henrietta) and Preston Foryt (McQuaid) each had 2.0 innings in relief. Kenyon Mahoney (Canandaigua) threw in the seventh.

A seven-run fifth inning gave DI Green the leverage it needed to pull away and secure its second win of the season. Zachary Hosmer (Webster Schroeder) scored the first run of the inning after an error. Next batter, Alexander Sassaman (Harley) delivered the eventual game-winning RBI single to right field to score Sam O’Neil. Armani Palma in the next at-bat drove in two more runs with a single.

Dan Tirabassi (Rush-Henrietta) also had an RBI in the inning with a double as well as a home run in the fourth over the left center wall and finished 2-for-3.
CJ Wiest (Brockport) drove in his second and third RBI of the game with a single in the fifth inning. Wiest gave DI Green the early lead in the first inning with an RBI double and finished 3-for-3. He also came in relief and threw 1.2 innings and allowed one run with six walks and four strikeouts.

Matt Mady started the game for DI Green. Mady threw 3.0 innings and surrendered one earned run on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Max Stuver (McQuaid) closed the game out and threw 2.1 innings and gave up one hit with three walks and three strikeouts.

DI Gold’s Jacob Keller (Churchville Chili) scored on an error in the second to tie the game. Later in the inning, Edward Hall (Victor) roped a go-ahead RBI double to score William Russotti.

Michael Richardson II (Geneva) added the third run of the contest for DI Gold after a bases-loaded walk plated him.
Korey Canton (Odyssey Academy) started for DI Gold and threw 3.0 innings and allowed one run on one hit with four walks and six strikeouts. Keller and Carlos Fantuzzi (Canandaigua) threw in relief.
