Pat Bigham (SUNY Fredonia) hurled three shutout innings and drove in a run to lead the Monarchs (1-2) to their first win of the season. Bigham started and faced the minimum over three innings of work. The 6-foot-1 right-hander struck out four and walked one to pick up the win. He erased a leadoff walk in the second getting a ground ball for a double play and set down the last five batters he faced. Bigham delivered the eventual game-winning run with a one-out single in the sixth that plated Will Porter (RIT) for a 3-0 Monarchs lead. Porter finished 2-for-3 on the day – the only batter in the game to pick up multiple hits. The Monarchs got on the scoreboard in the third. Shane Hake (Elmira College) knocked a one-out triple and came home on a Tyler Broderick (Keuka College) RBI groundout. Bigham reached on an error in the fourth, stole second and scored on Dylan Broderick single.

Christian Montanez (Roger Williams University) reached on a hit by pitch. The runners moved 90 apiece on a passed before Newkirk’s hit. Newkirk stole second, but the Lake Monsters could not take advantage.
