Wednesday Wrap: Lyndonville’s Johnson hurls no-hitter; Batavia rallies to set up semifinal meeting with Livonia

Class B1

No. 5 HORNELL 3
No. 4 BATAVIA 5
Alec Frongetta scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball to cap a three-run fifth inning as the Batavia Blue Devils rallied from a 3-1 deficit and advanced to the semifinals. Alex Hale, Jake Humes, Andrew Francis, Sam Sallome and Josh Weis all were 1-for-3 at the dish. Humes tied the game at three apiece with a two-run single to left field in the fifth. Senior Trevor Zewan singled in Weis for the first score of the game in the third inning. For the game, Zewan went 2-for-4 at the plate. Nate Ryan gave the Blue Devils insurance with a two-out, RBI base-knock in the sixth. Luke Grammatico connected for a base-knock and drew a walk. Taiyo Iburi-Bethel earned the victory for the Blue Devils, who advance to play top-seeded Livonia in the semifinals Thursday at 5:00 PM.

The LeRoy Knights surged to an 8-0 lead through the first three innings and defeated the Penn Yan Mustangs in the quarterfinals. Senior right-hander Tim McMullen threw five innings and fanned seven batters on 61 pitches. Junior Tom Saunders connected for three hits. The Knights advance to play the winner between No. 6 Attica and No. 3 Dansville in the semifinals on Friday.

Zach Johnson hurled a no-hitter for the Lyndonville Tigers, who advance to play No. 12 Caledonia-Mumford in the semifinals on Thursday. For the Keshequa Indians, seniors Nate Bean and Thomas Hackett both drew a walk. Connor Galton struck out six batters and threw 107 pitches.
