ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Franklin overcame a slow start to take down Wilson Magnet, 13-3, Wednesday afternoon at Genesee Valley Park.
Trailing 3-2, the Franklin Quakers sent 10 men to the plate, collected four hits, a walk and scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Sophomore Jhansell Carreras led off the frame with a single. David Martinez followed up with a RBI triple to drive in Carreras and tie the game at 3 apiece.
After Greg Ransom reached base via hit by pitch, senior Julian Cotto gave the Quakers a 5-3 lead with a two-run double.
Greiram Ramos was hit by an offering as well. Junior outfielder Carlos Alvarez drove in Cotto and Ramos with the Quakers’ second two-run double of the inning and extended their advantage to 7-3.
“We had a couple of walks and key hits there,” Franklin head coach Eddie Lee explained on his squad’s rally. “Couple of guys came up with some big hits. We just kept it moving. Kept the line moving.”
Alvarez and Cotto both drove in three runs. Cotto was 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch, a walk and three stolen bases. Alvarez got on base on a fielder’s choice and stole a pair of bases.

Angel DeJesus reached base in four of his five plate appearances. DeJesus roped a two-run double in the seventh inning for a 13-3 lead and stole two bases as well.
Carreras reached base in three of his six plate appearances. Besides his single to jump start the Quakers’ rally in the fourth inning, Carreras drew a walk and had an RBI as well.
Ramos had two walks, was hit by a pitch and stole six bases, five of which came in the last two innings.
Martinez went 1-for-4 at the dish with a walk. Freshman Jalen Breedy drew three walks of his own.
Luis Lopez drove in the first run of the game with an RBI double in the opening frame. Lopez was hit by a pitch and stole three bases as well. The junior right-hander closed the game in the bottom of the seventh inning by striking out the last two batters he faced.
“He wasn’t throwing strikes, my pitcher,” Lee explained. “He settled down. Guy (Lopez) came in relief and sent them down 1-2-3, 1-2-3. Bats weren’t going, so they picked it up. Some were simple mistakes that we can’t make at this next level.”
