BY PAUL LIOTTI
Thrills and chills were the order of the weekend as the 11-man regular season wound down. League titles were determined while the pushes for better Sectional seeds were turned in.
Here’s a recap of what went down:
Monroe County
Canandaigua and Irondequoit remain unblemished with big wins. While they are in the same division, they didn’t play during the regular season, but could meet in the Class A Sectionals; Spencerport avoids a losing season with a solid win over Athena; Hilton, Victor and Pittsford take advantage of their final tuneups for the playoffs.
RCAC
McQuaid continues to dominate the city league, as it wins its fourth-consecutive title and their 14-consecutive league game over the last three seasons with a win over East. Leadership avoids a losing season by beating Kearney/Roc Prep for the second consecutive year. Wilson gets back on the winning side of things.
Independents
HFL-UPrep turned in the game of the weekend, as the Cougars pull of their second miracle of the year; Aquinas was the last man standing in a wild win over St. Francis.
Livingston County
Alexander flexed its muscles in a shut-out win over Perry-Mount Morris in the league’s top game. Batavia’s body of work in its undefeated run has sent a message to Class B that the title will have to go through the Blue Devils. Letchworth-Warsaw’s defense continues to hold opponents at bay.
Finger Lakes
FL East finishes with two 3-way ties with ER/Gananda, Penn Yan and Wayne sharing the title; Wayne’s piece is its first since 2011. Red Jacket throttles rival South Seneca/Romulus/Trumansburg.
8-Man
Oakfield-Alabama/Elba just keeps rolling along, dropping 75 points against Marcus Whitman.
