Perlo and Fish walk (off); ‘Narchs get crazy eight

Devin Kelly (Finger Lakes) capped an eight-run fourth inning as the Monarchs came from behind to win for the second time in three games. Kelly plated Jackson Smith (Ithaca College) and Tyler Cyrus (John Carroll) with a two-out double. The Monarchs sent 11 to the plate in the decisive inning. Ryan Kalbfus (Gannon) paced the ‘Narchs offense going 3-for-4 on the night with an RBI triple.

Mike Magnanti (St. Bonaventure) had a hit, scored two runs and drove in another. Cole Penders (Brockport College) also scored two runs for the ‘Narchs (11-9) which moved within a half-game of the division-leading Lake Monsters. Hector Vargas (Corning CC) threw two innings out of the bullpen for the win. Jason Wasilnak (St. John Fisher College) registered his third save of the summer. The left-hander came out of the bullpen with bases-loaded, one out and retired the only two batters he faced getting a strike out and a routine ground ball.

Sean Sheets (Keuka College) and Kole Brink (SUNY Fredonia) scored two runs apiece for the Fish. Anthony Mashewske (Keuka College) and Ben Martin (Brockport College) both drove in two runs. Jayson Faynor (Genesee CC) was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

FLYIN’ FISH 7 (8 INNINGS)
Mike Perlo (Cornell) singled through a drawn infield to cap a late-inning rally with a walk-off. Cody Cooper (Slippery Rock University) scored on the play as the Fish (11-10) rallied to stay within one game of first place in the Interstate Collegiate Baseball League’s Rochester Division.

Josh Porter (University of Northwestern Ohio) hurled four shutout innings in relief to pick up the win. The right-hander came on with the Fish trailing 6-3 and limited the first-place Monsters to just one hit. He struck out three and walked two for his first win of the season. Cooper finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Making his first appearance of the summer, Phil Ferranti (Monroe CC) connected on a one-out triple in the sixth that scored Kole Brink (SUNY Fredonia). Ferranti eventually came home with the tying run on a wild pitch. He finished with two walks and two runs scored in the game.

Nate Chase (Grand Valley State) finished 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored to lead the Lake Monsters. Jonathan Catapano (Monroe CC) had a hit and scored two runs. Zach Harter tripled, drove in two runs and scored another.
