Canandaigua breaks Frontier curse; Avon clinches spot in third straight regional

Class A Regional Qualifier

Cooper Crunick allowed an unearned run on two hits over 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win, and Michael Sculli hurled an inning and a third in relief for the save. Canandaigua (19-4) will play Maryvale (15-8) of Section VI in Saturday’s NYS Far West Regional. READ MORE.

Class C Regional Qualifier

GENESEO 3
Avon took advantage of four Geneseo errors and erased a late deficit to advance. Pete Taylor reached on an error to start the sixth inning and scored the go-ahead run with two outs when Ryan Younger’s ground ball was misplayed. Maxx Countryman allowed a run on three hits over five innings of relief to pick up the win. Geneseo’s Jason Valentine finished 2-for-4 and gave the Blue Devils a 3-2 edge in the fourth inning with a two-out single that brought home Luke Harris with one of his two runs scored in the game. Nate Wojslaw singled and scored on a two-out error in the fifth as Avon knotted the game at three. Countryman scored a run and drove in another with a hit and a walk. Aaron Ghent had a hit and scored a run. Geneseo’s Russell Brownell was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Avon (20-1) will play the winner of Silver Creek/Forestville in Saturday’s NYS Far West Regional. The Braves have advanced to the NYS Class semifinals in each of the past two seasons.

Class D Regional Qualifier

AVOCA 2
Austin Reppert led off the game by reaching first base on an error. Sergio Azzolina then worked a walk before Nate O’Brochta also reached on an error to load the bases with nobody out. Evan Reppart picked up an RBI moments later on a sacrifice to give Avoca the 1-0 lead.  READ MORE.
