With at least eight local teams carrying winning streaks of five or more games, this week’s decision was an exercise in splitting hairs. Let the dividing of the salt and pepper (heavy on the salt) strands begin:
Sean Rucker’s Victor squad outscored opponents 50-6 in four wins without a setback to grab Team of the Week for April 29-May 6th. Louie Schafer grabbed headlines hitting two grand slams in the Blue Devils (11-4/6-2) win over Irondequoit on Saturday. Earlier in the week, Zack Carpin, Sam DiGiacomo and Chris Varone all went yard in a triumph over Hilton. Junior starter Drew Delaney has won four games. Owen Delforte was one the hill for five innings when the Blue Devils slowed the Irondequoit Eagles (9-5) which had won three straight games. Looking to keep pace with Penfield (11-3/6-1), Victor hosts Rush-Henrietta (5-5/2-3) to start the week.
WE DIDN’T FORGET ABOUT …
The Brockport Blue Devils (10-5/7-1) which closed the week winning four straight. Cole Penders paced the offense with three home runs in a win over Greece Athena. The Blue Devils cranked seven round trippers in the game. Matt Davis’s squad travels to take on Pittsford-Mendon in a key Monroe County Division III game on Monday.
Dale Werth’s Canandaigua Braves (9-3/5-3) have scored 108 runs in their last eight games. Cooper Crunick, Seth Vigneri and Jordie Johnstone led the way as the Braves set a program mark with 29 hits in a win to start a 2-0 week. The Braves play a pair against Brighton and are still alive to get a share of the DIII crown.
Jacob Thomas capped a 3-0 week for the Honeoye Bulldogs (8-1/6-0) with a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Naples. Randy Yale’s club has won eight in a row.
The Sodus Spartans (10-3/9-2) capped a 5-0 week with a doubleheader sweep of Clyde-Savannah.
