PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The College at Brockport baseball team earned their third straight victory on Friday, 5-3 over State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent, Plattsburgh State. The win moves the Golden Eagles to an 8-9 overall record and a 3-3 mark in conference play, while the Cardinals drop to 6-10 on the year and 1-6 in SUNYAC competition.
The Green and Gold got off on the right foot with Nicholas Pastore singling to right field and stealing second two batters later. Anthony Eaton worked a walk before a Lou Miceli double to left field scored both runners to give the team a 2-0 lead. The opposition tied the game in the third but starting pitcher Alex Brown got out of trouble so Brockport never relinquished the lead.
The Golden Eagles reclaimed and extended the advantage in the fifth inning, using five hits and one error to knock in three runs. Pastore led off with his second hit of the day and followed that with his second stolen base of the day. He came around to score the first run of the inning thanks to a Tom Kretzlerdoubled to left field. Eaton and Hall contributed singles in the inning to score a pair of runs that brought the score to 5-2.
Brown earned his second win of the season after throwing 6.2 innings of five-hit ball, allowing two runs and striking out four. Trevor McCarthy recorded the save, pitching 2.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits. Eaton went 2-for-2 at the plate working two walks and Pastore hit 2-for-5 and scored two runs.
Brockport will play a double-header Saturday, March 31 against Plattsburgh State with the first game slated to begin at 12 p.m.
