ROCHESTER, NY, March 5, 2018 — The Ronald McDonald House Greater Rochester All-Star Basketball Games rosters were announced Monday by Rich Dibble, Games Chairman.
The 75 High School All Star players and cheerleaders who will participate in this year’s game were selected by representatives and coaches in each of the fourteen High School basketball leagues in Section V. This year’s players and cheerleaders represent 66 schools.
“We are extremely proud of all the girls and boys who have been selected to participate in the 33rd Annual All-Star Basketball Game,” said Ren Weichbrodt, Rochester McDonald’s Co-Op President. “We encourage the community to come to the games on March 24th and show support for these outstanding high school athletes. These games not only showcase the talent of these local athletes but they allow them to help raise funds for a worthy cause.”
Net proceeds from the games will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester. The Ronald McDonald House is a temporary lodging facility for families with children being treated for serious illnesses at area hospitals. The House provides a “home away from home” for families who are going through a difficult time and are in need of support. Over the past 32 years the games have raised over $350,000.
The double-header on Saturday, March 24th at Rush-Henrietta High School will feature the girls’ game at 1:00pm and the boys’ game at 3:00pm. The Ronald McDonald House All-Star Cheerleaders will be performing at half time of the boys’ game.
Members from Section V and the boys’ officiating organization, IAABO Board 60 and the girls’ officiating organization, CWGBO, have organized the event since 1986 to recognize the outstanding talents of area High School senior basketball players and to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester. Game sponsors include McDonald’s Restaurants of the Greater Rochester Area, Rochester Regional Health Systems, and Entercom Radio Stations WBEE, WPXY, WBZA, and WCMF.
