ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Kobe Long paced four in double figures, and the No. 5 seed McQuaid Jesuit Knights advanced to the Section V Class AA championship with an 81-73 victory over the No. 1 seed Fairport Red Raiders Tuesday night at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester Community War Memorial.
Long connected on five of nine shots from the floor including four of six from behind the arc. The sophomore guard’s triple to end the first quarter gave McQuaid a lead it did not surrender at 18-15.
Teammate Anthony Iglesia finished with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor. The duo combined to hit 8 of 11 from long range.
Iglesia drilled a three early in the fourth and assisted on a Jermaine Taggart layup three possessions later. Long followed and hit one of two free throws to give the Jesuit Knights their largest lead of the game at 67-48 with 5:02 remaining.
Taggart converted on 10 of 10 free throw attempts and added 18 points for the night.
Harry Bruu came off the McQuaid bench and scored 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the floor and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Jackson Sullivan led Fairport with 17 points. The senior forward hit 7 of 10 shots from the floor and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Andrew Bartlett connected on four of nine three-point attempts and finished with 16 points for the Red Raiders.
Tommy Lindstrom scored 10 points and handed out a game-high six assists. Vanzell Johnson scored 11 points for Fairport (16-6) which was looking to repeat as Class AA champions.
Fairport outrebounded McQuaid, 40-31 including 17 on the offensive boards which the Red Raiders converted into an 18-8 advantage in second-chance points.
McQuaid outscored Fairport in the paint (28-24) and off turnovers (19-8).
The Red Raider bench held the advantage on its counterparts, 24-12.
McQuaid will play No. 6 seed UPrep in Saturday’s final.
